Site Tip · Building trust
Ask for reviews at the right moment
You finished the job, the customer thanked you, and then you never heard from them again. A few weeks later you wonder why your Google reviews are so thin. The truth is that most happy customers never leave a review, and it is rarely because they do not want to.
Why timing matters
Reviews help your business show up and look trustworthy when people search on Google. But a review takes a few minutes, and nobody has a spare few minutes after the moment has passed.
Right after a job goes well, your customer is feeling good. The work is fresh in their mind. A week or a month later, they have moved on, and your request feels like a chore from the past. The fix is simple: ask while they are still smiling.
Get your direct review link
A direct link opens your Google review box in one tap. Without it, customers have to search for you, find the right listing, and look for the review button. Many give up on the way.
To find yours, sign in to your Google Business Profile, which is the free listing that shows your business on Google Search and Maps. Look for the option to ask for reviews or share a review form. Copy the link it gives you and save it in your phone notes so you can paste it anytime.
How to ask, step by step
Keep it short and friendly. You are not begging. You are helping happy people say so.
- Wait until the job has gone well and the customer has said thanks
- Ask in person first, in a sentence: "If you're happy with it, would you mind leaving a quick review?"
- Send the direct link by text message or email the same day
- Say thank you once they have posted, or even if they do not
Mistakes to avoid
Do not offer gifts or discounts in exchange for reviews, and do not write reviews for customers. Google has rules about this, so check its current guidelines. Do not ask only the people you think will give five stars, either. Just ask everyone who had a good experience.
Do not argue with a bad review. Reply politely, offer to fix the problem, and let future customers see how you handle it. Please do not promise any particular result from reviews. They help build trust, but nothing is guaranteed.

Questions owners ask
How soon should I ask for a review?
As soon as the job is done and the customer is happy, ideally the same day. The longer you wait, the less likely it is to happen.
Is it okay to ask for a review by text?
Yes. A short text with your direct link is easy for customers to open and tap. Just keep the message friendly and personal.
What if I only get a few reviews at first?
That is normal. Keep asking after every good job, and reviews will add up over time.
